Mend Baxi Baroque Turn Fire Problem

How to turn off my Baxi Baroque fire?

I have moved into a new house and used the fire for the first time last night. After having no problem turning the fire on, I can now not turn it off as the knob/controll does not seem to have any effect either turning up or down. Is there another safety feature on the fire that will allow me to shut off the gas? I don't mind if that means the fire is no longer usable.
