A spring wire attached to the main switch that is pushed down with the toast carrier has broken. Remove the lid, (4 security screws - use a small flat blade screwdriver. Re-attach the spring or a replacement to the switch such that it engages with the operating mechanism. I'll leave the attachment method to you. ~Re-fit cover.

buy new one these things are not worth fixing ,nor are kettles or irons or microwaves ,the labour costs more the the units
