Fix a broken string?

I have a cantilever umbrella with a broken string. It appears that the string broke approximately eight (8) feet from the umbrella end. It looks as though the string goes from the crank, up the pole possibly to a pulley, then back down and around the remaining string on the crank shaft, then back up to the umbrella. Is this a correct observation? I cannot identify the manufacturer or the model number.
