Hotpoint Aquarius dishwasher fwd20 pre wash and wash lights flashing. ?

Hotpoint dishwasher fwd20 prewash and wash lights flashing. I've checked for blockage and took back off. It seems that the salt filter outlet is completely bunged up and yellow. There is no way of opening it, any suggestions on dissolving the problem? Help
