how can I fix my sewing machine kenmore 158.16012?

I changed the belts on Kenmore 158.16012 sewing machine, and now it seems as if they are too tight. It will sew but makes a noise. It sounds like a squeaking noise. Is there a way to adjust the belts to loosen or tighten? Is it possible that they are not on correctly? Thank you
