Mend Sunbeam Kettle Years Switch

Sunbeam kettle no longer switches off?

Our Sunbeam kettle, about two years old, no longer switches off when it boils. I have had a look at the switch gear on the bottom but can't see what is supposed to happen. There is a small circular spring plate which looks as though it should click over centre, but it doesn't look as though it is doing anything at the moment.
