Goodmans GD11FVRSD32 Freeview + Digital TV Recorder?

A program had recorded and the description was all gobblydegook (!"£$$%^&JVBFDSSSR())1245) I pressed to delete it and it asked for my PIN number which I put in, nothing would work and it kept saying recording device initializing. I have diconnected the recorder and left for 30 minutes and plugged back in but it still keeps coming up with the i sign saying recording device initializing. Any ideas how I can clear this and get recorder working again please. It will not let re-format HDD or factory re-set.
