Starting issue?

Hi I've a 2006 crewcab tipper 350 90 , last if older shape. Had new(genuine) starter motor fitted, new glow plugs too but wont(rarely) start on first turn of key ? Usually three or four attempts but always starts around the fourth turn , it goes to start but cuts out until fourth ish lucky turn! When been running it'll start first turn so seems a cold start issue ? Runs fine when moving etc ....
Also gears are hard to get unless in near rev range to click in but no slipping of the clutch????
