air con on ford focus?

i have a 2007 1.6 lx ford focus,now every time i turn the car on the air con light comes on so i end up haveing too trun it off,or it will just run on,not a big deal when i got the car,it didnt put me off buying it,it,s just a bit of a pain when you forget to trun it off.
