Mend Fiat Punto Clutch Gears

Problem with my fiat punto - clutch maybe? Need advice?

Just purchased a fiat punto 2000 reg 1.2l today I was driving back and when I was changing gears it sounded like I still had my foot on the gas pedal as it was over reving. I then was nearly home when I changed the car into 2nd gear and it was just constantly reving when my foot was off the gas to the point where I had to turn the car off and push the car home. It sounds like something to do with the clutch. It's just had an MOT by the previous owner.

Cheers for your help. I mean I could smell like burnt rubber so I'm hoping it is just that and not the clutch. Does anyone know the cost of repairing the clutch now if it is that?

Sticking accelerator cable by the sound of it. You could try lubricating it but if it is too far gone replace it with a new cable.
