Boiler making humming sound when first on. No display only flashing dashes?

Boiler makes a humming noise when switched on, works for a while then goes off completely. After a few days comes on again with the loud humming to start with. status flashing dashes occassionaly, the nothing. Been on and off for a month now. Any ideas? Thanks Lorraine. HE15 icos condensing.
