Smeg dw1612c?

There are signs of smoke damage on back of the control panel pcb. Could this be dueto dampness or else on the pcb there is a black rectangular relay which i am considering replacing with new one . Its only about 4 pounds. Is there any way of testing this relay or indeed the pcb?
