Cannon Henley cooker - glass top problems?

My Cannon Henley Model 10585G dual fuel cooker
- the glass top just falls down now - there is no restraining facility - it was fine until a few weeks ago. There are 2 quite heavy springs at the back on each corner which should ensure the glass top comes down gently - these are no longer doing the job. Any suggestions please ?
