Smeg dishwasher DWi 66 - detergent compartment does not open during washing?

Smeg dishwasher DWi 66 (60cm) - detergent compartment does not open during washing and rinse aid not used - how can I fix it?

(Currently washing with detergent compartment open.)

I have a spare DWI67 smeg. The tablet will drop into the bottom of the D/w after the pre-rinse anyway, so no real biggie.
I have parts for the above d/w so if you need to replace anything let me know.You'll find that most smeg d/w models have the same parts.
