problems with igniting cannon stratford 10535G MK2?

Does anybody know how to solve problem I am having getting the cooker to light, having to use a gas candle lighter. I suspect it may be the battery, unfortunately I do not have the manual to find where I would change it! I would be most grateful for any advice.
