How can I release the jammed carriage on my Knitmaster 326?

I have just purchased a 326 on ebay, and although the machine is in good condition and has clearly been looked after the carriage is completely jammed and won't move at all. I have removed the carriage lock plate and the sinker plate, cleaned around it and put some light oil on, nothing happens. Any ideas?
