motor replacement on zanussi zwd12270s?

when we use our washing machine there is a strange noise when the drum spins, its almost as if there are arcing in the motor, as the washer is just over five years i'm assuming the brushes in the motor have worn down and need replacing, so what i'm asking is 1, does it sound like the motor has gone and if so which one, and 2, if the motor has gone can i replace the brushes or is the motor a sealed unit now and require full replacement.
