chrysler neon ignition key stuck?

i am trying to get this car back on the road. I put the key in the car, it was parked up for 18 months. The car started ok first time, but now i cannot turn the key fully to get the key out.
The car is automatic if this makes any difference.
At the moment i have to leave the key in the ignition in the second position and lock the car with the keyfob.

Just wondered if anyone knows what i can do to resolve this?
