I have been looking around on the internet because our player is doing the same thing. Aparently your RCA cord may be bad, or a cord may be plugged in wrong (try video instead of svideo). Also, another idea: "it looks as if your DVD player is set to switch the video output TV standard between NTSC and PAL according to the frame rate of the DVD disc that you put in it. If the output standard of the player is set to "automatic", rhe player will switch to PAL when the DVD frame rate is 25 fps, and to NTSC when the frame rate is 24 or 30 fps.
You probably don't have a multistandard TV, (that is whay the picture is B&W and stretched vertically) so just go into the DVD player setup menu and select either "PAL" or NTSC" but NOT "AUTO" video output according to the type of TV that you have." Hope it helps, we still haven't fixed ours yet!
