Peugeot 206 - 2005 Aniti Pollution fault/ catalytic Converter Fault?

This anti pollution fault came on last night- very frightening as lost power and engine was vibrating madly.
Not exactly assured by the mix of comments already on Forum but all seem to be saying a similar thing. I have just filled up at my local Supermarket garage as I normally do.
Ive had my Peugeot for 3 years now. When I very first got it, I soon realised that whenever I left it parked nose up on an incline, this generated the Catalytic Converter Fault and the Engine Shuddered. Sorted by moving to level ground, switching off and on.
Unfortunately, this didn't work last night.

I don't want or need a huge Garage bill, if you are in the SS7 area and Peugeot Mechanic would appreciate feedback.

the engine size is 1.6ltr (I think)
I've tried Redex in the tank but to no avail.
The car is regularly serviced and I always check the Oil and Water.
Its only done 33000 miles, so can't be anything major, can it?
I'll certainly check the Air Filter etc.

You don't tell us which engine you have. Decent fuel would help the poor thing - Shell V Power or BP Ultimate are both good. I would never use supermarket fuel in ours. I assume that it has been serviced correctly.

I'd start by checking the air filter to make sure it is not filthy or wet.

If not that then I'd look at spark plugs and possibly coil pack. Make sure you are using the correct Bosch plugs obtained from your main dealer. Peugeots tend not to like other makes.

Also make sure there is no hissing from a cracked breather hose, that could upset it..

If it is a 2.0 engine there have been issues with tappets but I'd go through the more obvious points first. Deal with one thing at a time.
