Hotpoint WDD960?

There is no heat whatsoever to my Hotpoint washer/dryer. I have opened it up, cleaned the gunk from the fan etc but still nothing.
My questions - does this mean the heating element needs replaced, where is it in the machine, what does it look like and how do I go about it. I want to fix it myself and buy the part but no point if I dont know what I am doing.
