knocking on hotpoint aquarius wd440!!?

My washer dryer has been knocking very loudly when on the spin cycle for as long as I have had it (about 2 1/2 yrs). It doesnt knock all the time, but it makes no difference whether its a light or full load. Someone suggested we tighten the damper, we tried that but no change?
Also the dryer has no heat although the cycle cotinues as normal with the air blowing and everything but no heat, would that be thermostat or heating element?
And 1 more thing,
Is it easy enough to change the door seal?
Please help, hope you can.

today i put the washer on it washed perfect no problems until it started to its spin it makes a very loud knocking noise so i stopped the washer and took out the clothes and tried it on spin did the same thing and then i tried it on dry and samething any ideas to what could be wrong

Hi the knocking noise sounds like you may have a fractured arm on the drum spider assy. this part has three legs to support the drum . and get regulary get eaten away by the powder as they are made of alloy. this usually dismantling the machine and changing thec spider assy. and bearing seal kit at same time. the tumble dryer section after removing the lid and unplugging appliance. may have 2 small cut outs with little red buttons. gently press the red button and lisson for a click. this will reset the stats. then try it out. the tumble dryer duct may also need cleaning out. i need more info on model no. and serial or prpduct no. good luck.
