Do you have a second drive? Very easy to add if you have a desktop model.
With Windows Vista, 7 and probably 8, it's a breeze to relocate your user folders to the second drive.
Just right-click a folder, like "My Documents" and drag it to the second drive. In the context menu that comes up, sellect "Move here".
If you have lots of files to move, it can take a few hours, be patient. As a bonus, the freshly moved files will be in a defragmented state.

Normaly, I find that using CCleaner montly is enough, and should be for most users.

I set my defragmenter to start weekly. Defraggler is a prety good and free defragmenter. It have a sheduling option. There are premium offerings that have some smart "Set it and forget" work very well.

A word of advice: If you have an SSD hard drive, you should NOT defragment it. Fragmentation don't degrade it's performances as there are no moving parts. Defragmenting those will reduce their longevity.

Use the machine's Help & Support feature to discover how to do this - it will explain how to Uninstall programs - they usually take up lots of space.

Use Windows explorer to delete specific data files and even folders.

Check "download" areas and delete all the rubbish in there

Use the disk clean up utility

When finished DEFRAGMENT your disk - do it annually.

Download and install the free program called CCLEANER

Run it a couple of times each week.
