How can I fix our odyssey fire?

We have had our fire for over 5 years now and to be honest we don't use it a lot due to central heating. However, coming up to this winter we have tried to use it and the problem we have is as follows: The fan will operate but gives out no heat and the light bulbs flicker for a second when you turn it on but then turn off straight away, bulbs and fuse has been checked and are ok. What do we do from here as if its something simple then I would rather avoid costs from the supplier.
