so how do you get the old barrel out?

Take the inner door card off remove the outer door handle and look at the inside of the handle and you will see there is a hole with a locking tab from the barrel casing holding it into the handle assembly, push this locking tab in with a small screwdriver and use another screwdriver to prise out the barrel. Refitting make sure that the locking tab is out far enough for it to lock into the handle assembly before inserting into the handle

Sorry I should have added.......
The van is a citroen Jumpy and the barrel spins when you put the key in to unlock or lock the van.
