Horizontal mortar splitting in a property can indicate failing wall ties.if the wall has a cavity and not been filled with insulation you can use a camera and have a look.you can also use a metal detector on the outside brickwork to find ties and then drill and chop out around old tie and have a look at it.youtube has videos and products to look at to give you an idea
