How can I fix my Starlogic 868V50 dvd player?

My DVD was working fine. Didnt use for a couple of months and when I tried to use it again, nothing. The remote control wont function, e.g. open the DVD door. Changed the batteries but still nothing. It's a bit of a pain that this model doesnt have light to tell whether its on or not, but that wasnt a problem before. I've tried trying to get a new remote, but they dont seem to exist any more. I'm very frustrated, any suggestions, anyone?
