Mend Heating Element Main

Heating element stays on when oven is switched off?

My oven has developed a fault. The heating element of the main oven stays on when the oven is switched off but the fan turns off. This resulted in the oven becoming very hot before it was noticed. If the oven is switched of at the mains the element goes off and does not come on again unless we touch the clock to switch to non automatic.
