Alternatives to QuickTime player?

For imbeded quicktime content in a web page, the only alternative is quicktime alternative.
Not having it is not a great loss, as it's mostly used to add usualy anoying noises...
(I don't have quicktime, regular nor alternative, and have a beter browsing experience)

Alternatively, there are MANY other players that can play .mov files, like VLC and several others.
