Mend Veritas 8 Reset Alarm

Can't reset our veritas 8 alarm. ?

Our house alarm went off for no apparent reason while it was disarmed when we were at home. Tried resetting by using code and pressing reset twice but nothing. We had to silence it by turning power off and removing battery wire. What's wrong with it ?
