sure using correct needle. if that is not the problem it could be needle bar not set at correct height or hook timing is out. you can take off left cover and look for screw holding needle bar. take a average off 5mm between needle clamp and machine body when needle bar is at highest position. loosen needle bar screw and move upwards until you get desired measurement carefull to keep needle in correct position with eye facing forward.hope it help a little
