Why does my laminate flooring crackle?

We had floating laminate flooring installed 4 months ago and it has always crackled when we walk on it. Someone said give it a few months to settle but it has not made any difference. It was layed on a type of silver foil thin bubble wrap. They left a space all around near the skirting and then put a trim down. It is so noisy it drives us crazy. Can anyone tell me if it can- be fixed if we get the installers back?
