eml on all the time ?

make sure that you have the codes for your radio , if you take the lead off the battery it will knock off the radio, and you will need codes to get it going again,

it really needs to go onto a code reader,never heard of your other fix working,come back with your fault codes and could maybe help you out.One common fault on these which costs nothing to check is the egr valve sticking,remove fuel filter housing from bulkhead,three torx 30 screws on intercooler pipe and three torx 20 screws on egr housing,lubricate valve under spring and push/pull spring to get valve moving.
