Mend Maytag LAT8520

Maytag LAT8520 washer?

Does the transmission shaft that the plastic agitator is bolted to need any type of lubricant on it??? We removed it to clean the agitator due to a nasty buildup either from soap or our terrible water that leaves a residue on everything.
