NO water getting in. Check inlet hose connection, there is a filter in the fitting, water level sensor, type of sensors varies by make model. could be small dia pipe from bottom to top, connecting to a pressure sensor (so m/c thinks it has water). I assume that you can hear main pump going, will not go very well without water. Although always some left in m/c
