may have a submerged pump that isn't working.but unsure if its a sherman tank or lawnmower we are trying to fix????????

depends what car is some have pump or bulb on engine to bleed some you have to bleed with starter.have you put plenty of deisel in 5 ltrs is not always enough when really empty needs 15trs to cover all pipes if not level. I have wrapped a rag round air line with a pipe under bonnet loose,and blown gently in fiiller till deisel comes through to there [ then tighten up and try agian] before now,

remove filter and manually fill with diesel,if it hasn`t been done for a while then now might be a good time just to replace it,crank over and open a couple of injector pipes,shut them off when you see diesel up to the injectors,can`t be more specific as you haven`t given any veh.details
