Whirlpool Ceramic Hob - flashing 'F' and '2'?

I cant seem to cancel this, the surface is dry and reasonably clean. I have power from the mains. Presumably something needs to be replaced, is it worth repairing or worth just replacing with a new hob? The hob is just over 5 years old.
