Mend Kenmore 4 slice toaster Toaster Element Side

how can I fix my Kenmore 4 slice toaster?

the heating element on one side of my toaster will not shut off. It remains lit even without any bread in slots, or if I try to cancel. Only way to shut off is to unplug. The other side of unit works fine.
