Mend Buttons Flush System

how do you get the dual push buttons off the systern?

I cant get to the flush system because I cant get the dual flush buttons off, they are plastic and I dont want to break them! What do I do?

On most of them you unscrew the ring on the outside of the buttons,they are only fingertight.
