can i turn off boss thermostat completely?

i have purchased a boss programmable thermostat is it possible to turn it off altogether or can i only put it on standby mode which will turn heating on if it goes below 5c regardless of whether i want it on or not. if i turn all the radiator valves to off will that prevent them from coming on in this instance.
