Ford transit,breaks locking?

I have a ford transit swb 01,the front breaks ,both sides locking on hard. Fitted new pads ,cleaned and greased housings, pistons free when nipple is open but wont push in when not. Could it be a problem with servo or master cylnder??Thanks Jerry

i dont think brake servo will cause this problem as there is only a spring and diaphragm in it ,plus a couple of seals to stop vacuum leaking.the only problem with servo is usually no assistance with braking due to vac leak

booster means servo.
We normally call it brake booster in Australia.
Don't mean to confuse you "sorry'

Sorry just saw you reply,
If you unbolted the master cylinder and left the lines on and the brakes unlocked that means something is holding the master cylinder on.
As the other guy said make sure the pedal not jammed but the only thing between the pedal and the master cylinder is the brake booster.
From the info i've got it looks as though you'll need to replace the booster.

make sure that the brake pedal return spring is ok, and there is slight play between master cyl and pushrod. if no play it will allow pressure to build up in system.[when brakes are locked on try lifting brake pedal up and see if they release. this will confirm above if they release]also does vehicle operate in saltwater environment-if it does check for seized linkage from pedal to servo.

mark,as soon as the pressure went out of the servo
both sides released immediately so just to confirm t means a repladement servo? jerry

Agree,
inside of hoses might be swollen and not allowing fluid to run back.
Take them off and check they are not blocked.
If that doesn't work unbolt master cylinder from the brake booster and see if that releases the calipers"leave the lines connected when you do this"
If that test releases the calipers replace the brake booster.
You might want to do my second suggestion first,"it's easier".
