smeg dishwasher tripping the electric?

the dish weasher is tripping the electric when turned on and then leaking all ove the floor, the water is staying in the bottom of the machin, wondered if it is a filter songe that has expanded in the tank on the side. when i last tried it it did nothing but trip the electric.
