Mend AEG 40850 Dishwasher Detergent Dispenser Wash Cycle

Why does the detergent dispenser on my AEG 40850 not open?

The detergent dispenser on my AEG Favorit 40850 does not open properly during a wash cycle, so the detergent doesn't dissolve. The web site says that something in the upper basket may be preventing it opening, but this is not the case. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
