Mend Snapper LE1438H Engine Starter Solenoid

Snapper LE1438H starter won't work?

When I turn the key the solnoid just clicks... and that little deal under the float bowl clicks too. I removed the starter and it does work while on the bench. I replaced the solnoid already & no change. I am able to start it by wapping a rope around the pully on top and givin 'er a good yank. Also the headlights don't work, if that's related I don't know ??

Check the condition of the starter pinion gear, the ring gear on the flywheel and the starter drive that the pinion gear turns on. If those are all OK and the engine is Overhead Valve, it could be the valves need adjusting. If the exhaust valve is not opening up enough the starter may not be able to overcome the compression to spin the engine.

Also new battery, always has a full charge..... just sat two weeks and it's fully charged.
