On most cars, by using the alternator, you probably found that it swivelled, pull it so that belt is tight, or use slight leverage, hold in place until you have tightened bolts. If it does not swivell, you probably have a tensioner assembly on the belt somewhere, that should be doing the job, if not tensioner could be faulty
