Hi Jon,
I have spent the day scouring the net to try and find a fix for this exact problem. I can come to your rescue as I have just fixed mine with exactly the same problem.
My grill stopped working, I could hear no gas coming through but could hear a micro switch turn as I turned the knob. Everything else on the oven worked fine.
In hindsight I realise I caused the problem by closing the door whilst grill was on. What happens is that it gets too hot in the grill and a safety device (the thermostat) kicks in and cuts the circuit which stops any more gas coming out.
A search through google and yahoo gives you the answer to fix it, reset the thermostat, but i will tell you how to do it as I have just done, fixing my broken grill of nearly a year!
Essentially the steps in fixing the grill are:
TURN IT OFF AT THE WALL
Remove the oven and grill doors
Take all the screws out that keep the oven fixed in its casing.
Pull the oven out.
Remove the casing that covers the back of the oven.
Find the thermostat
Hit the reset button.
Do all everything in reverse
It should now work!
Okay so in detail.....MAKE SURE THE ELECTRIC IS OFF. The doors were a pain to figure out but easy once i'd figured out. You need to remove each screw near the hinge. You will notice that if you pull at the hinges they are spring loaded. Pull at the door and it will pull out on the spring loaded hinge, you will see some holes in the hinge exposed, put something small that fits in the holes so that you jam the hinges out. (I used kebab stick skewers from summer!) This makes it easier to work on them. You will also notice there are some small plastic clips that push into the side of hinge, these need to be removed. Hint, I took pictures on the digital camera to remind myself what everything looked like before I attacked it, especially important for remembering which way the small plastic bits go in.
Now remove the doors by pulling them out their fixings. You will be left with a long plastic piece still attached to the hinge part of the oven. You need to take these off by removing the small cylindrical pins. (Take a picture to remind yourself how to put them back together)
With the doors off and effectively 4 metal fingers sticking out of where he doors used to be you need to remove some small screws that keep the oven fixed in its own fixing frame. I think there are about 9 or so.
Now you can pull the oven out. This is tricky and you may need to grip it from inside the oven. Dont worry about the gas supply. it is on a flexible rubber pipe as you will see once its out.
You should now be looking at a dusty aluminium looking casing. Remove the casing screws taking precaution around the fixing where the gas goes in. Take off the casing.
Behind the clock part about 10-20cm back and on the flat surface is a small gizmo about the size of the end of your little finger with two wires going into. This is the thermostat. In the middle is a little red dot. This is actually a micro switch. When you press it carefully and listen you will hear a tiny click. This resets the thermostat. At this stage I turned the electic back on turned the grill on with the oven out to check it has worked, which it did.
Now you have to do everything in reverse. Put the oven back, back on. Slide it back into its fixing (being careful of the gas and electric wire. Put all the screws back in and re-assemble the door hinges.
It should now work! Ill keep an eye on the post in case anyone has anymore questions.
