Mend Halstead Finest Gold Combi Boiler Heating Plumbing

Heating wont turn off?

I have a Halstead Finest Gold combi boiler once its running for any length of time it wont turn off using the thermostat or timer. I have to turn the power off at the mains. A freind told me that the natural gas cokes up the valves so they stick on is this the case?
The hot water works fine.
