Hope this might help, I have a diesel in my boat, the auto advance, on the injector unit, is activated when the engine warms up above 30 deg, via a temperature switch on the side of the engine block. Engine is same as used in rover montego/meastro vans/cars etc just marinised. So for cold start, not active.
