Mend Vax Switch Carpet Cleaner Water

vax switch?

I was shampooing my carpet with my utility vax cleaner and when I refilled fresh water to continue switch seems to have stuck won't switch on .What has caused this? I took the wee screw out and looked under plastic panel just metal switch ,tried to move it but nothing.
