transit starter motor removal?

Loosen the 2 nuts off for the wiring one is a 10mm and the other is a 13mm the remove the three bolts holding it to the gearbox to fit the new one simply reverse the procedure this is the easiest way to do it on a transit connect

there are 2 13mm bolts holding the starter in place thats on the passenger side of the gear box abit difficult to get at ,i think there are 4 wires 3 are on the solinoid and the 1 earth its a real easy job 20 mins thats old off new on

my number 1 injector on my 02 ford transit keeps coming loose and makin a tapping noise ive changed the injector and seal but same problem why is it doing this??

i have changed my starter motor today.
remove front bumper complete.
remove intercooler.
remove lower front crossmember.
drain coolant.
remove radiator.
you can now get at the upper fixing bolt.
remove old starter motor.
re-assemble, reverse of above.
takes about 3 hours.

This is a common problem on the later transits. The flywheel starts to break up and the debris or filings enter the starter motor unit, until it can no longer function properly. The quick solution is to remove and clear the starter motor, but this only provides a short term solution otherwise its a costly new clutch and flywheel.

Before you take the starter out, this seems obvious but most mechanics miss the simple stuff, disconnect and clean the battery terminals and connectors, disconnect the earth first then the positive, refit the positive, then the earth, make sure you have got your radio code(it will be lost), next check the earth lead that connects to the engine is tight and clean, check the positive lead to the starter is tight and clean, make sure the earth lead is disconnected from the battery before cleaning and tightening connections, there is a smaller lead on the starter solenoid (the small unit on top of the starter,)check this is tight and clean. Finally with your headlights switched on, crank the engine, if the lights do not dim and the engine does not crank, then the starter is not using any current you still have a fault, sometimes the small wire on the solenoid is not supplying good voltage, remove the wire and connect a test wire at least 5mm thick, briefly touch the positive lead, if the engine turns your supply to this wire is faulty or your solenoid is naff.
